In paint, the binder is the material that holds the pigment particles together as a cohesive film and acts as a glue to hold (or bind) the paint to a surface. Examples of binders are linseed oil (for oil paint), egg yolk (for tempera), milk protein (for casein), and acrylic resin (for acrylics).
