(From Greek: τετρά, “four” and μορφος, “shape”). In Christian art, an image comprising the symbols of the four evangelists. The tetramorph is based on the “four living creatures” in Ezekiel’s vision (Ezekiel 1: 4-11). Each of the four evangelists is associated with one of the living creatures. The most common associations are: Mark (the lion), Luke (the ox), Matthew (the angel) and John (the eagle).
