order

In classical architecture, a stylistic system that governs every aspect of a building’s plan, elevation and decoration. Specific orders, such as the Doric, Ionic, Corinthian, Tuscan and composite, can be recognized by the proportions of columns and the decorative details of capitals and entablatures.  See also colossal order.
