Nouveau Réalisme

(French: “New Realism”). An avant-garde art movement founded in 1960 by the critic Pierre Restany and the artist Yves Klein, Nouveau Réalism has been described as a European counterpart to Pop Art. Artists associated with Nouveau Réalism made extensive use of collage and assemblage as well as painting. Artists associated with Nouveau Réalisme include Arman, César, Martial Raysse, Christo, Daniel Spoerri, Jean Tinguely, Niki de Saint Phalle and Mimmo Rotella.
