Digital cameras use electronic photodetectors to capture images that are focused by a lens. The captured images are digitized and stored as computer files. The digital camera was invented by Kodak engineer Steven Sasson in 1975. By the beginning of the 21st century digital technology overtook analog film in commercial photography.
