meander

A decorative pattern constructed from a continuous line that takes repeated right-angled turns. The term derives from the twisting course of the Maeander River in Asia Minor.  Meanders are common decorative elements in Greek and Roman art.  Also known as a Greek key pattern. Pronunciation here.
